Is a Borzoi right for me?

If you’re thinking about bringing a Borzoi into your life, take a moment to ask yourself a few important questions. Reflecting on them will help you decide if a Borzoi is the right companion for you and if your home and heart are ready for one of these gentle, graceful and powerful souls.

You are choosing a sensitive, ancient soul with a very unique way of seeing the world. Borzoi are not “easy” dogs, but for the right people, they are deeply rewarding companions.

Before deciding on a Borzoi puppy, it is important to understand what this breed truly needs.

A Borzoi puppy requires time, not just physically, but emotionally. They mature slowly, both mentally and physically. You cannot rush them, pressure them, or expect instant obedience.

Borzoi respond best to calm guidance, consistency, and trust. Harsh training methods or high expectations too early will damage the bond and the dog’s confidence.

Borzoi are extremely sensitive dogs. They feel tension, stress, and emotional changes in their environment deeply. Raised correctly, they are calm, loving and balanced. Raised under pressure, they can become insecure or withdrawn.

They are not dogs for constant correction or loud households without structure.

As sighthounds, Borzoi were bred to think and act independently. This means they are intelligent but not eager-to-please in the traditional sense. Recall can be challenging, especially during adolescence.

Borzoi puppies grow fast, but mature slowly.
Their bones, joints, and muscles need careful handling in the first years.

Over-exercising, forced running, or too much impact can cause long-term damage.

A Borzoi grows into a large, powerful, yet elegant dog. They take up space, physically and emotionally. They will stretch across sofas, knock things over with their tail, and need room to move comfortably indoors.

Borzoi are large dogs with specific needs.
Quality nutrition, veterinary care, equipment, and possible emergencies must be financially manageable.

A Borzoi from our breeding is never a temporary decision!!

If life changes, we expect to be contacted. A Borzoi should never end up in a shelter or passed from home to home.
