about him
Balto – My First Borzoi, My Elegant Disaster.
Balto will forever hold a spot in my heart not just due to his remarkable qualities but because he is my very first Borzoi.. Believe me… nothing can get you ready, for your first Borzoi. Not books, not Google, not hearted tips. Nothing.
When Balto showed up I expected to receive a calm nobleman, with slender legs and soft behavior..
Indeed - he embodies all of that. But he is also chaos on stilts.
He was sensitive, dramatic, stubborn in the most poetic Borzoi way, and convinced that every rule applied to other dogs … but never to him. There were moments I wondered if I adopted a dog or a very tall, very confused prince who accidentally ended up in the wrong kingdom
Training him sometimes felt like negotiating with royalty:
“Balto, sit.”
Elegant blink. Gentle sigh.
“No. Yet I shall recline gracefully instead.”
“Balto, don’t chase that.”
Already halfway across the field, powered by 1% brain and 99% ancient hunting instinct.
“Balto please get down from the couch.”
Spreads out even more, pretending to be asleep like a professional actor.
It wasn’t easy. He challenged me, tested me, and made me question my sanity more times than I want to admit. But every struggle became a story, every frustration an inside joke, and every tiny victory felt like winning a medal in the Olympics of Borzoi ownership.
Then a magical event occurred.
Somewhere between the chaos, the comedy, and the countless “Balto, please don’t do that” moments… I completely fell in love with Borzois.
Every struggle became a story, every frustration an inside joke, and every tiny victory felt like winning a medal in the Olympics of Borzoi owners.
The sensitive, ridiculous, affectionate souls they truly are.
Today, Balto is my shadow, my teammate, my four-legged comedian. At home he is calm and soft, stretching himself across the furniture like he owns every square centimeter of it. Outside, he is a breathtaking mix of grace, speed, and questionable decisions, fueled by a prey drive that could power a small city.
He is also, without question, the biggest lap dog in the universe. He believes the solution to every problem is to sit on me, lean on me, or at least place one dramatic paw on my leg. He causes everyone to chuckle due, to his silly looks, surprising awkwardness and his apparent ignorance of how big he really is.
Balto showed me patience, affection, humor and modesty. He revealed what it truly means to be loved by a Borzoi and to love Borzois.. Despite our start being chaotic, difficult and at times ridiculous.
I wouldn’t change a single moment.
I adore him above all else—my Borzoi, my tender jester, my foolish prince
my heart in a long, elegant, ridiculous body.
